Registration deadline: 29 Jan 2016
Starting date: 01 Feb 2016
Ending date: 26 Feb 2016

Course background

While there are clear benefits from working with others to achieve results we cannot achieve alone, effective collaboration could be challenging. This workshop aims at helping leaders and decision-makers to recognise when collaboration is effective, understand some of the most common barriers to effective collaboration and be able to put in place practical measures to overcome them. It will consider what contributes to make collaboration effective, and suggest how organisations and individual managers can be effective collaborators.

Course objective

The overall goal of this training session is to help leaders and decision-makers working with the United Nations to recognise when collaboration is effective, understand some of the most common barriers to effective collaboration and be able to put in place practical measures to overcome them.

Learning objectives

At the end of the programme, participants should be able to:

  • Describe different kinds of collaboration, and the potential benefits and costs of collaboration in the context of achieving development results;
  • Describe the concept of ‘effective collaboration’;
  • Recognise different barriers to collaboration; and identify possible strategies, techniques and tools to overcome them;
  • Improve the leadership skills necessary to promote and support collaboration;
  • Develop a strategy and action plan to enhance collaboration within their area of work.

Methodology

This blended learning opportunity combines a self-paced online course (1-22 February) with a practical face-to-face workshop, including lectures and presentations with applied group work, case study analysis, role play, and discussions. At the end of the session, participants will draft a short action plan putting into practice the concepts and tools learned.

The workshop will take place on 23-26 February at Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Fee: USD 600
